CPP Investments, the Canada Pension Plan's investment manager, announced the hiring of Richard Manley as Chief Sustainability Officer.
Since joining CPP Investments in 2019, Manley has held the position of Head of Sustainable Investing. After 18 years at Goldman Sachs, where he was most recently Global Head of Thematic Equity and ESG Research, he joined CPP Investments.
He is also the chair of the ISSB Investor Advisory Group and a member of the Transition Plan Task Force for the United Kingdom.
According to CPP Investments, one of Manley's objectives in his new position will be to oversee the "further refining and implementation of a strategy for CPP Investments to navigate the global economy's transition to address climate change sensibly." CPP Investments set a series of climate-related goals earlier this year, including a 2050 goal to achieve net zero emissions across its entire portfolio and activities.
Manley will also continue to lead CPP Investments' Sustainable Investing Group.
John Graham, president, and chief executive officer of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, stated:
"Sustainability is a high focus for CPP Investments, and by appointing Richard to this key leadership position, we will continue to advance our strategy and its implementation, particularly with regard to our commitment to achieve net-zero emissions."
