M&G Real Estate, a branch of M&G plc's £77 billion private assets and alternatives division, announced today Laura Jockers' appointment as Global Head of ESG.
Aligned with M&G's overall policies and strategy, Jockers will manage a larger, committed staff with a transition from Responsible Property Investment to ESG as its primary focus. Jockers will collaborate with M&G Real Estate's global teams to advance the implementation of its ESG strategy, strengthen the work being done by M&G's funds on net zero routes, and ensure the company's GRESB targets are consistently improved.
M&G has established climate goals, including the reduction of carbon emissions from operations to net zero by 2030 and net zero throughout its internal and external investment portfolios by 2050. The real estate company has stated that it has achieved 80% of its aim of obtaining green certification for 50% of its global real estate portfolio by 2025.
M&G Real Estate's Head of Investment Strategy and Research, Jose Pellicer, stated:
"It is wonderful to have a team member of Laura's caliber. She is one of the foremost authorities on real estate ESG. She has a comprehensive understanding of how the industry can play a leading role in decreasing carbon emissions and how we can set ambitious goals."
Jockers joins M&G from The Howard de Walden Estate, a London-based property management company, where she served as Head of Sustainability. In her role as Global Sustainability Communications, Reporting, and Research Project Lead at the real estate-focused professional services firm JLL, she assisted a variety of real estate clients with their sustainability agendas.
Jockers said:
"M&G is already doing a lot to make sure that ESG is at the top of its worldwide real estate portfolio. Its three 5-star GRESB ratings are proof of the hard work it has already done. My goal is to make sure we keep these high standards while also reaching our long-term goals."
